ABC News Nabs Second NYT Scribe

Susan Saulny

ABC News prez Ben Sherwood in press release: I am very happy to report that Susan Saulny is joining the talented ranks of the ABC News Washington bureau as a correspondent.

Susan has spent the last 12 years with The New York Times covering national news and contributing to the paper’s digital video efforts.

A superb reporter and writer, Susan helped chronicle the race to the White House in 2012, breaking news and writing features, traveling across the country through Election Day.

For four years in the Times’ Chicago bureau, Susan covered every kind of breaking story from weather disasters to mass shootings. She also wrote about the recession, the impeachment of Gov. Blagojevich and the ouster of Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick.

In 2001, she helped cover the terror attacks of 9/11 and wrote profiles of victims for the Times’ acclaimed “Portraits of Grief” series. She was an integral part of the team that won a Pulitzer for “A Nation Challenged,” a special section published in the aftermath of the attacks.

A native of New Orleans, Susan reported extensively on Hurricane Katrina and its devastating effects.

In 2010, she authored a series of long-form articles called “Race Remixed” that explored the growth of multiracial America. Her reports illustrated how young people are rejecting the color lines that have defined Americans for generations.

Last week Jill Abramson of The Times described Susan as “a tremendously gifted reporter and writer who, perhaps unfortunately for me, lights up any screen.”

Susan joins us next month, and her work will be featured on all our programs and platforms.

Will the last reporter out of the Times please turn off the kerosene lantern?

You give the NYT too much credit, Jimbo, it’s a whale oil lantern — complete with cotton wick.

She has more of a Fox look.

I think so, too!  A hot addition to ABC News!
